I guess Aruba makes for a better live shot than Birmingham, anyway

This post perfectly illustrates what's wrong with the priorities of network and cable news these days. Don't get me wrong - I feel for Natalee Holliday's family. But just like the Runaway Bride, these stories are a dime a dozen, and it's an injustice to everyone else who gets thrown in as a VO or as two paragraphs on Page 3 to focus on the young, cute girls.

I'm glad to see your post on this. I've been similarly troubled at this phenomenon. A story that features a photo of a young hottie seems to garner more attention that it ought to. Recent examples, in addition to Natalee, are the "runaway bride," and Laci Peterson. Tom Cruise & Katie Holmes are another example (seriously, does anyone really care who/whether Tom Cruise is dating other than the entertainment reporters who seem fixated on this?). I'd even suggest that the Terri Schiavo case was, in part, fueled by Mrs. Schiavo's pre-injury photographs.
